  • How it works

The best way to study for your examination is to practice answering questions similar to those you’ll find on the actual test. Our NCLEX-RN practice tests are based on the same categories that are included on the exam: Physiological Integrity, Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, and Psychosocial.

    • Maximize your study time

Our practice tests are designed to maximize your study time. You can take them as many times as you like. Study to learn and understand, not to memorize.

    • Like flashcards, only easier

Taking each test several times is like reviewing with flashcards, only easier. Each time, the multiple-choice questions and their possible answers are randomply shuffled, so that you are learning facts, not the order of the questions.

Frequently asked questions

  • If I’m not sure about which option is best, should I guess?

Random guessing on the NCLEX-RN will lower your score. If you don’t know the answer right away, try to eliminate one or two of the choices. On Nurse.plus practice tests, if you’re not sure, or if the question has new information that you haven’t seen before, click on the Hint button below the fourth answer option. You’ll get a clue to help you figure out the correct answer.

  • How can Nurse.plus help me study?

Research shows that practice tests are valuable tools in helping you prepare to sit for your NCLEX-RN. They can decrease anxiety about test-taking: the more practice tests you take, the better you become at reading the questions and developing a strategy for choosing the best answer. They also identify your areas of strength and weakness. We recommend a regular study schedule, starting 2-3 months before your examination.

  • When do I get the score for my practice test?

Your score is constantly displayed. Before you begin, the numbered grid in the upper left corner of the computer screen is grey. As you take each NCLEX practice test, just look at the grid to see how well you are doing. Each grey square in the grid will turn green or red, depending if your answer to the question is right or wrong. With each question, the squares of the grid will turn green with your correct answers or red with the incorrect ones.

  • How are the practice tests arranged?

Each of our practice tests falls into one of the four NCLEX-RN categories: Physiological Integrity, Safe and Effective Care Environment, Health Promotion and Maintenance, and Psychosocial Integrity. Each category includes practice tests that cover the subcategories. We also plan to offer tests that will take all the questions and split them into specific topics, such as pharmacology, laboratory tests, medical emergencies, etc.

  • Where do these questions come from?

These questions resemble those on the NCLEX-RN. We designed them to simulate the real exam provided by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). Many of the questions were created by our authors. Others were kindly provided by the Khan Academy under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 United States License.

  • What happens if I get a question wrong?

If the answer is correct, you will see a green checkmark and can go to the next question. It it’s wrong, you will see a red “x” and the correct answer. The rationale for the correct answer will also show, so you can read it and find out more. Taking notes on the questions you need to study will reinforce your learning.

  • Do I need to register to access the tests or the results?

No. You don't need an account to access our NCLEX practice tests or the results. We use a browser cookie to remember your progress so that you can safely close your browser window and come back at any time to the exact point at which you left off. No usernames or passwords to remember!

  • Is there a passing score for the practice tests?

We’ve set the passing score for the practice tests at 80%. The NCLEX-RN is a pass/fail examination, designed to determine if you have an entry-level knowledge of nursing. While we can’t promise that getting 80% or higher on the Nurse.plus practice test guarantees that you will pass your NCLEX-RN, you will have an indication of subjects that you know, as well as those that need more study.

  • Can I take a practice test more than once?

Absolutely! Our practice tests work the same way as flash cards. Each time you retake any of the tests, the questions and options will automatically shuffle into a different order. Random ordering is a proven learning method.

  • What if I don’t understand a question or agree with an answer?

We’re always glad to hear from Nurse.plus users. If a question can be improved or corrected, please let us know. Send us an email at hello@nurse.plus. We review all comments and respond to users as soon as possible.
