This exam simulator mimics the experience of the official NCLEX-RN exam by pulling questions from a huge database. Just like the official NCLEX-RN exam, it uses computer adaptive testing (CAT) to measure the competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry-level nurse. You’ll get different questions based on how you answered previous questions. Every time you answer a question, the system re-estimates your ability based on all the previous answers and the difficulty of those items. The system then selects the next item that it believes you should have a 50% chance of answering correctly. This way, the next question should never be too easy or too hard. The computer’s goal is to get as much information as possible about your true ability level. You should find each item challenging as each item is targeted to your ability. With each item answered, the computer’s estimate of your ability will become more and more precise. The computer will then decide whether you passed or failed the NCLEX using one of three rules: 1) 95% Confidence Interval Rule, 2) Maximum-Length Exam Rule, or 3) Run-out-of-time (R.O.O.T.) Rule. You won’t be able to skip questions and will have to answer each one in order to move to the next question. You’ll answer a minimum of 85 questions to a maximum of 150 questions. No hints or explanations are provided.
