What you need to know
Reviewed by Winona Suzanne Ball, Nursing Adviser, RN | MHS, Governors State University, IL, Full member of the American Nurses Association.
Welcome to the second NCLEX-RN practice test on Reduction of Risk Potential. This is an important subcategory of Physiological Integrity, designed to evaluate an entry-level nurse’s ability to be familiar with potential risks for all clients, and how to intervene before there are complications. Reduction of Risk Potential represents a large area of content on the NCLEX, with 9 to 15% of all test items. You’ll want to study how to obtain all types of specimens; performing diagnostic testing; inserting/maintaining/removing catheters and lines; managing a client during a following a procedure with moderate sedation; and providing client education. This practice test asks about post-operative care, abnormal laboratory values, inserting nasogastric (NG) tubes, and client education. Begin this test at any time. If you leave any test before it’s finished, it will remind you where you are when you return. Read each question carefully and try to think of the answer. If you need help, click on the Hint button that’s under the fourth option to get a sentence that serves as a reminder. If you select the correct response, you’ll automatically advance to the next question. If you make a mistake, an explanation will immediately pop up to provide the rationale for the correct answer. Each time you take a practice test, the questions and options are shuffled into a different random order. These are two proven techniques that reinforce your learning.
