What are the characteristics of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)?

FASD can include both physical and behavior or learning problems. Some of the common physical characteristics on the spectrum: Abnormal facial features (small eyes, exceptionally thin upper lip, short, upturned nose, and smooth skin surface between the nose and upper lip); small head circumference and brain size; deformities of joints, limbs, and fingers; slow growth, before and after birth; vision or hearing problems; heart defects. Behavioral characteristics include: Learning disabilities; poor social skills; poor impulse control; difficulty remaining on task and completing work.
