Signs and symptoms are related to starvation: extreme weight loss; thin appearance; dry or yellowish skin; bluish tinge to fingers; hair that thins, breaks, or falls out; amenorrhea; constipation and abdominal pain. Clinicians will note abnormal blood counts; arrhythmias; hypotension; and dehydration.
